Calan -Ty Ni

  • Iona Jones

During lockdown, Calan performed Ty Ni (Our House) on a stage that was transformed into a living gallery of home life. Each band member played inside their own socially distanced pod and each room was a glimpse into the world of a modern traditional band - not just how they live now, but the places and objects that have inspired them and given them their personalities. I was asked to create an identity that could be used across their promotional material and merchandise. The band wanted something cheerful, positive and comforting to reflect the theme of home and to lift spirits during the pandemic.

The use of bright punchy colours and bold vector illustrations helped the promotional assets stand out within the ever busy social media space. As the design would also be used for merchandise, I wanted to make sure that I was creating designs that could be treated as artwork, that people would want to wear or have hanging in their living rooms. The quirky typefaces used along side the illustrations helps bring more fun into the design. The curvy 70s style header (Ohno Blazeface) has subtle similarities to Celtic lettering, referencing the bands musical style.
