Casbien Barr - Personal Project

Photography and album art for my musical act Casbien Barr

Casbien Barr is my ongoing music project where I write, perform and record all the compositions, give or take a couple of collaborations. With a old laptop, Ableton Live, an Akai MPK25 and a whole collection of salvaged instruments I make an eclectic mix of Art pop, RnB infused vocals over hip hop drums and synth textures.
Along with creating the music, I use the project to flex my creative instincts, conceiving and creating the album art and my own photography. Throughout the project I have had an aesthetic of baroque flowers and bold fonts mixed with horror-esque scenes and imagery. In my own mind I've always associated it with 'horrific beauty', a sense of bitter sweet that is often reflected in the music, especially the lyrics. Images that are striking and draw you in, perhaps beautiful at first but the subtext is maybe unnerving. Its in the legs and bleeding heart of 'Love Slick', the isolation of 'Wishful Thinking' looking up to only a single star and the twisted bedsheets of 'So Method'. The promotional photography that goes alongside this follows the same theme and aesthetic with flowery funeral beds, finery and isolation.
