Charlotte the Animation

  • Neil Hughes

Charlotte lives in a dark dystopian time, where the world is plagued with high rise buildings and pollution. Everyone has forgotten the beauty of nurturing. My solo stop motion animation project. Clay model with wire armature and fabrics. To make this a single body and head was created, to which 4 faces could be switched between to visualise mouth and brow expressions. A total of 16 eyes were created to alter eye and lid movements. There are 545 frames allowing for semi-smooth movement, yet keeping the handmade aspect which represents the raw quality of the piece. Once all frames were shot and cleaned up, the plant animation was layered on top. It was a great animation to make and it taught me a lot, including keeping lighting secure and making steady hand movements. I am excited to consider animations for future puppets and see how they develop.
