中國外賣 (CHINESE TAKEAWAY)

  • Amy Vien
As a child of immigrant parents of an ethnic minority in a predominately white country like England, I have always been aware of the ways I am different to my peers and how it is rooted into my identity. I am British-born Chinese, and like many others in my family and those who share the same identity, have a similar experience of growing up and working behind a Chinese takeaway counter. I draw a lot of inspiration from my background, and this project delves into the Chinese takeaway, a place of business but also my (literal) home.
This film illustrates and explores the visuals of a Chinese takeaway behind the counter. Although this place is a familiar sight, with most branches having indistinguishable decor in the counter space, this film begins to reveal the curiosities and practices of the ordinary food establishment.
