Chromesthesia Paintings

  • Eleanor Wass

I recently discovered I have chromesthesia which is a form of synaesthesia where I experience colours and shapes when listening to music. So as part of an on going project I am working on to get back into making art, I have started painting my experiences across a mix of songs.

This was my first painting not only for this project but also the first time in about five years I have painted on a canvas. I really surprised myself with how much I enjoyed painting. This painting was of the song Moonchild by RM. The colours and brushstrokes within the piece where all influenced by the tone, rhythm and pacing of both the instrumentation and RM's rapping.
I wanted to create a different tone within this painting so I chose a female musician, this is He Loves Me (Solo in Paris) by Lianne La Havas.
Purple Rain by Prince. I am discovering it's very hard to explain why I create certain movements within a piece, it's a very instinctive process.
This is an ongoing project and I am posting updates over on my instagram: eleosdesign_
