Civic aims to engage, inform and inspire using typography and image to capture narrative to convey the message to others. The journey is documented through a print publication and a website, including interviews and photographs.
The project began by observing my surroundings. I am fascinated with how we learn, engage and participate in society, which has changed dramatically since the emergence of a new public space; social media.
After studying how participation can be enabled in design and interviewing industry professionals involved in urban planning, regeneration and graphic design, I wrote a dissertation about participatory culture. It explores how design has enabled participatory culture, how this is affecting society, and how participatory media is affecting design as an industry.
