Lions, and Tigers, and Bears, Oh My! This collaborative project for my Glasgow-based zine, @Antagonizine, delves into the theme of home, focusing on both the concept of home and the essence of my own city, Glasgow—a city built by its people. We titled this issue "There's No Place Like Home" for several reasons. Firstly, it echoes Dorothy's journey in The Wizard of Oz to discover what home and happiness truly mean. Additionally, Dorothy's significance within the queer community, especially during the 1950s and 1960s, cannot be overlooked. Judy Garland, a beloved figure, became an unofficial mascot for many gay men, who identified themselves as 'friends of Dorothy.' This echoes the sense of belonging that many young queer people seek within their communities. Also, Garland and film stars like her evoke fond memories of watching films with my Gran May, embodying the spirit of old Glasgow and the stories and memories we shared. In our feature, we reimagine the iconic scene from The Wizard of Oz, where Dorothy and her friends set out on an adventure. Instead of seeking the wizard, they embark on a wild night out, exploring their identities through fashion and the communities they encounter. This issue represents a significant collaborative effort and celebrates the rich tapestry of experiences that define both personal and collective notions of home.
