Clubber Spotlight: Anisha Kapoor
Dazed Clubber Anisha Kapoor will be debuting her new short film "Synthetic Fish" in the Dazed Space on Thursday 4th July. Here, she gives us a glimpse of what we can expect, along with the creative and personal motivations behind the project.
“In a world where the mundane intersects with the absurd, my new short film "Synthetic Fish" dives into the tale of a vending machine that sells salmon, and the bizarre, absurd consequences that follow those who dare to purchase from it. Set against the backdrop of everyday life, the film weaves a tapestry of surreal scenarios, blurring the lines between reality and fiction.
“Juxtaposing the banality of everyday environments with fantastical plotlines and vibrant visual mediums like 3D and animation, "Synthetic Fish" challenges perceptions and defies expectations. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences and weaving in references to a myriad of films and genres, the film becomes a visual exploration of the artificial and the authentic.
“While aiming for a tone that is satirical and perplexing, at its core, "Synthetic Fish" is a messy heartfelt exploration of human consciousness and the allure of escaping into fabricated worlds. It blends genuine sentiments and anxieties with playful acknowledgements of fictionality and real life.
“This is a deeply personal expedition that confronts with the fear of making wrong decisions in life, navigating the uncertain waters of adulthood, and reconciling the desire for grand narratives with the messy realities of existence. This exploration of the realities that often fall short of our fictional dreams has no direction. It isn’t going anywhere, it is simply being.
