"I don’t know what I'd call myself, I’m a fashion writer most of the time, but I’m also a lo-fi film fashion maker and photographer. I think work that draws on history or nostalgia, and celebrates imperfections is way more interesting than anything too glossy and perfect. I love a concept and make sure I have my references in order before any shoot – everything from the colours used to the poses struck can carry meaning, so I want to make sure it’s all communicating exactly what I want it to. I work a lot with phone footage or my shitty old camcorders, as well as collaging and editing by hand.
"This shoot was actually some stills I took whilst I was filming a campaign film for my brand! Me and my sister Scarlet owned a small label called Monozygotics and I wanted to make sure I got some photos of each look. The collection was a bit of a comeback after we lost our studio so we drew on a lot of our classic shapes, items, and fabrics to create something new from our own origins. Similarly as designers that played around a lot with ideas of femininity, dark humour and challenging ideas of ‘good behaviour’ we took inspo from all the way back at Eve and the ‘original sin’ of female disobedience. Working in text ‘Sin’ motifs, snakeskin and apple red. I wanted to play with the idea of doing things wrong on purpose with the photos and the film I made so I really warped the images and lowered the quality!
"I’m a huge fashion nerd, I have a masters in fashion criticism and media so I’m generally either inspired by some obscure fashion movement or creative, or by the ways fashion overlaps with societal issues like class, gender, or environmentalism.
"I have a bit of a beautiful rag-tag community that I've found via our social media. A lot of us aren't in the same field, social groups or even the same county but we’ve managed to find each other and connect over issues we really care about. I of course find exploring art and fashion inspiring, but nothing fires me up more to create and make a difference than an intense conversation where I can learn about other experiences. For example, a friend recently had a huge talk with me about decolonisation and it made me feel so spurred on to keep working and trying to push for changes.
"I am in the process of publishing a magazine! It’ll be printed and released in September and features some really amazing creatives. So keep your eyes peeled!"
