Collection 5 - Only The Blind

  • Natasha Robert

Autumn/Winter 2018 the collection sees a host of new colour ways and textiles used - from Sauterne yellow and Maple orange to highly intricate embroidery and raised rubber designs. Collection 5’s artwork is inspired by Johannes Vermeer’s 1665 painting ‘Girl With A Pearl Earring’, Vincent Van Gogh’s 1889 ‘Self-portrait’ and the monarchy, seen in our King George V ‘Sovereign’ and King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra ‘Blessed’ graphics. The artworks are timeless pieces that inspired this collection to make a statement within itself - while our superimposed statements stay true to Only The Blind’s ethos and aesthetic. We drew inspiration from iconic artworks and The State. The collection’s manipulated prints and tongue-in-cheek slogan indirectly comment on society today. Juxtaposing dark monarchy graphics with contemporarily reworked art and slogans makes Collection 5 a thought-provoking interpretation of streetwear today.
