An illustration created to highlight the struggles faced by South Asian women due to Colorism

This illustration was created for an Instagram campaign to comment on the issue of colorism in South Asian culture and society.

In this portrait, I wanted to explore the different expectations faced by women in South Asia by contrasting the lighter and darker sides of the woman's face.

To supplement the portrait, the text on the portrait was meant to highlight the statements said to both light and dark skinned women, as the more "real time" aspect of the portrait. Through the statements, I wanted to expose the simple underlying truth in the piece: It is an exhausting reality when being a woman is hard and being a dark-skinned Indian woman borders on impossible.
