Community lead coastal clean up

  • Yolanda Thein

We partnered up with Baba Beach Club and Sri Panwa’s staff as a CSR initiative for their staff to understand the importance of the mangroves’ ecosystem and how they protect coastal communities. Furthermore we had an additional 80 students from the local school down the road as part of the peer to peer program, and of course the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources - who were very helpful throughout the entire process. After an hour of a rigorous clean up, the total of rubbish collected came to 1300 kgs (2866 pounds) of waste. The collected waste was divided up into recyclables while the majority was taken to the official garbage disposal.
