Confessions

  • Izzie Cleary

This project explores the concept that every person has a confession, regardless of the facade they present to society. Perhaps it is something they have only ever told a close friend, or never told anybody at all. The confession remains a secret for fear of the damage it's divulgence might do. When we write down our confession, it helps us to release some of the guilt we feel, translating emotional experiences into words helping us to think of them in a simpler, less menacing way. Keeping a secret is proven to harm us due to the feeling of inauthenticity it causes. Putting emotional turmoil into words gives concrete form to secret experiences. The following confessions were collected from friends, peers, and complete strangers, through a variety of methods, illustrated by me.
