Cuban Contemporary Art: Artist Talk

  • Claudia San Juan
Presented by Ministry of Nomads Gallery "Cuban Contemporary Art" was an immersive event focusing on Cuban art and culture.
The opening of Cuba to the world and the upcoming political change positions this year as a decisive moment in Cuban history. Ranging from the art and culture of Cuba, to contemporary photography and public art, a series of talks illuminated the art of Cuba now. Accompanied by live Afro-Cuban jazz, this event provided an opportunity to experience why this sensual, magical nation has captured the imagination of artists and the world.
The Artist: Rachel Valdés creates spectacular installations in both urban and rural settings around the world that emphasize possibility and tie their viewers to their environment and to themselves. The dynamic, immersive installations create individual contemplative experiences as well as rich social engagement.
