Curiosity may be the end of the line for the cat, but it’s the beginning of every good idea we have. Without it, we wouldn’t have the direction to interrogate a brief, research our subject, or figure out how things work. We decided to use our own curiosity about a specific artistic technique (injecting bubble-wrap with food colouring to create a mosaic) as a metaphor for the larger role curiosity plays in creativity. So, we rolled up our sleeves, set some cameras up, and began injecting small drops of colour into grey sheets of bubble-wrap, bringing artistry to an initially drab backdrop. As the film progresses, a message begins to form in the mosaic: “Be Curious”. Our thinking was this: the drops being injected represent insight. So, when we see the mosaic transformed into a work of art, we can see the effect that curiosity has on creativity. Shooting was meticulously completed over sixteen hours, with some nifty time-lapse photography. And two of our creatives did the injecting; putting colour into each individual bubble, one-by-one. We used a poetic voice-over in post to further crystallise the connection for the audience, creating a subtle, sincere piece that represents “Confidently Curious”.
