Cuts = Consequences

  • Charlotte Walker

Cuts = consequences is a typographic project telling a story of knife crime through statistical data. It takes the form of a report exploring the decade between 2010 - 19. The project recognises that numbers are descriptive and often used to provide details of complex social situations. It examines specifically how knife crime has been affected since the Conservative Government’s public sector budget cuts. Spreads represent statistical headlines setting the context of the time, numerical data highlighting the impact of increased crime and most significantly, the stories behind the numbers. Ultimately the project reflects that victims of knife crime are more than the numbers that represent them, which can only tell one facet of a complex story.
