SOLUTION

D&AD is an educational charity which exists to stimulate, enable and award creative excellence in design and advertising. Atthe New Blood Festival 2019, between their four courses in BA and MA level, Graphic Design and Advertising won an incredible 17 D&AD Pencils — the most awarded University in the world. In response, the Vice Chancellor’s Office has asked us to present a showcase exhibition of Graphics and Advertising at Falmouth, to celebrate the student work and to champion the role of these courses in preparing industry-ready graduates.

The exhibition

Monday 16th March 2020, was the exhibition grand opening. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 we had to close the doors relatively early. However, it was great to experience the process of setting up an exhibition, especially one which I helped design. I felt involved and assisted the curation, working in the role of an Art Director, guiding the technicians and informing them of the required locations for the exhibition materials.
Prior to this project, I had never experienced being a part of a curation team on a professional level and have gained valuable skills and knowledge regarding planning, organising and real-life challenges faced during the artworking stages of a project. I will take all that I have learnt with me as I venture into my creative career, and I would love to be involved in another exhibition project again.

The newspaper

In celebration of the success of Falmouth students, a newspaper was designed to document their achievements, showcasing each winner’s project and included short interviews with the designers themselves, where myself and Mollie Baker asked questions regarding the students’ D&AD experience, transition into the industry and the benefits of Falmouth University. I was given the responsibility to design the newspaper, assisted by Mollie, who helped retrieve content, organise the page orders and worked as a second pair of eyes. The newspaper acts as a way for attendees to take the exhibition home with them, keeping the newspaper for future reference.
