CONNECTED:disconnections. This project explores the concept of connections/disconnections and how we simultaneously experience both. Being a dancer, the concept was born from my experience when I dance. Dance allows you to both connect with yourself and others & at the same time disconnect from the outside world. The idea has been examined through movements, both of the body and of the garments, to celebrate the sport of dance. Approaching the project as a pattern cutter, the focus was to create garments which allow the wearer to move and dance freely. Each colour used in the project is inspired by famous afrobeats/dancehall album covers to highlight their importance within dance. The project resulted in a sportswear collection of 16 garments for the Final Major Project of my BA in Fashion Pattern Cutting at London College of Fashion. To showcase these outfits, a photoshoot was curated with dancers and movement artists to bring the garments to life and highlight their functionality. The sport of Dance is freeing, healing and all about movement. Just like CONNECTED:disconnections.
