The story is that of Campaign magazine, its impact over the last 50 years, and what it means to both those in the industry and those behind the scenes at Campaign. The shoot itself was the most ambitious in Campaign’s history, assembling over 60 people from the advertising world into the iconic adland location, Dean Street, for a photo shoot showcasing famous addresses and significant people. The documentary looks at this two day process, both from the perspective of those taking part, to those behind the camera. Beginning with a conversation between two legends of advertising, John Heggarty and Nils Lenard, the photoshoot travels down Dean Street, capturing the interesting people along the way, as well as the key processes of the actual photoshoot, mixed with interviews with key people from advertising. As the camera moves down the street, it sees the buoyant atmosphere that was mixed with nostalgia for the publication and the advertising world. The documentary ends with an interview from Michael Heseltine, who was being photographed in a taxi outside the Soho hotel. Whilst talking about Campaign, the co-founder of Haymarket and Campaign unintentionally sums up the raison d’être of the documentary, to show that “Campaign is an iconic example of what Haymarket was all about… creating a world class visual and editorial product that represents the best of the advertising and marketing worlds”. I was the main producer, camera op, and editor of this film.
