Design for the Metaverse

Our partnership with Double A Labs was nothing if not ambitious, setting out to reimagine the way people connect, collaborate and communicate with co-workers and clients in a virtual work environment. At a time when hybrid and remote working has increased exponentially, we were tasked to define the product experience and visual identity for a multifunctional platform tailored for today’s hybrid business landscape The aim was to create an immersive and personalised virtual space allowing users to share meaningful interactions inspired by real-world human behaviour. Research into “Zoom Fatigue” explored the impact of excessive amounts of close-up eye gaze, cognitive load and increased self-evaluation from staring at video of oneself. We identified that metaverse experiences are less about the ‘visual experience’ and should rather focus on better human connection. We needed a B2B experience that was as engaging and fun as B2C platforms, bringing the texture of in-person connection into the virtual workspace. We needed to bring greater sensory experiences through real-time video, spatial audio and interactive communication in a space that felt authentic and less like a parody of the real world. Focusing our strategy around seamless real-time communication we designed a frictionless and enjoyable user experience across web and mobile interfaces, bringing greater human connectivity to virtual hybrid working. The result is personalised virtual spaces that support effective communication and build stronger relationships across teams and customers.
