Diversifying Subcultures

  • Zoe Baker

For this project, we were asked to create a series of three outcomes which were an extension of something we are passionate about. I decided to focus on two main themes:issues surrounding diversity and the goth subculture. The goth community has always been an emblem of accepting ones otherness and diverting from societal norms. However, the subcultures hamartia has always been the irony that this group of outcasts has never made room for poc. From the stigma of pale painted skin to Eurocentric features, which are idolised, leave no room for the integration of black features. Through the exploration ‘diversifying subcultures,’ I wanted to show how people of colour can be so easily integrated into the goth aesthetic
