Dreamland

Dreamland was produced during the COVID-19 lockdown in the United Kingdom. The photos explore the emotions and feelings felt during my experience of lockdown but in a positive light. There is enough bad news circulating at the moment and, although this project highlights feelings of loneliness and glumness, I have tried to put a positive spin using the style. We won’t be in lockdown forever and while we have time, why not turn what we’re feeling into amazing stimuli to create. Iceland, Australia, Ireland and parts of the UK feature in the project. These are all places I was meant to visit but cannot because of lockdown or places I wish I could be back in now because I’m fed up being stuck in lockdown. It uses a style, heavily inspired by Aerochrome film, to try to put a positive twist on the depressing feelings of lockdown. Pink and blues spark feelings of calm but also excitement. All the photos featured were taken between July 2016 and August 2017. I was frustrated and unable to create work I was happy, being primarily a gig photographer, with from within the constraints of my house so I reached out, through my archive of images, to find images relating to how I was feeling. Welcome to Dreamland.
