An electronic check, or e-check, is a payment you make electronically using your bank account.

An electronic check, or e-check, is a payment you make electronically using your bank account. When using an e-check, you supply payment information (such as your bank account, routing number, and payment authorization) using an e-check authorization form rather than cutting a piece of paper out of your checkbook. This gets your payment ready for electronic processing. The ACH network, a crucial component of the digital payment infrastructure for US financial institutions, is used to process electronic checks. You might think of ACH as a metaphorical highway for electronically transporting money, and e-checks are just one type of vehicle using that highway. Even though e-check processing is significantly faster, it still needs the same data to function. Electronic check payment must be initiated by a person who can provide their bank routing number, account number, email address, and authorization.
