Echoes of the Silenced

  • Shaan Rehsi

An immersive installation that combines auditory stimuli from eight endangered languages with dynamic visual animations. This multi-sensory experience is designed to raise awareness about the loss of cultural and linguistic diversity. Visually, each language is represented by a distinct colour palette inspired by its cultural heritage, reflecting the neurological phenomenon of chromesthesia, where sounds evoke colours. The animations, created using Blender, are synchronized with recordings of native speakers, traditional songs, and environmental sounds. This creates an emotional connection between the audience and the languages, highlighting their beauty and significance. The installation also includes a QR code linking to a website that provides detailed information about the languages, their cultural contexts, and ongoing preservation efforts. This project celebrates linguistic diversity and serves as an educational resource, encouraging viewers to explore and advocate for the preservation of languages and cultures.
