Ed Ball at BEAT London

  • Anya Zraykat

In 2018 I collaborated with London members’ night club BEAT and curated an exhibition of paintings inspired by music by British multi faceted artist Ed Ball. The opening of the exhibition was accompanied by a performance of the artist where he demonstrated how he paints his canvases to the sound of music. What differentiates Ed Ball’s artistic style is that he creates energetic and vibrant artworks that visually represent the music he listens to whilst painting. In other words, he endeavours to create artworks whereby art collides with music. “All I want to do is connect with people on a primitive level, bringing an emotional response through a powerful work. It’s as simple as that.” – Ed Ball The rhythms and beats of the songs mirror in the bold brush strokes, free flowing colours and shapes on his canvas. Using industrial and household paints with a cocktail of acrylic polymers, Ball organically creates complex interactions within his work, persuading different types of paint technologies to react and combine. The guests at the opening night were able to witness this extraordinary process.
