John was being interviewed for the magazine and I was asked to shoot some pictures to accompany it. I wanted to make sure that I shot a variety of styles to try and help the designer out with some dead space for headlines and text if needed. It was music to my ears when John said “I’ve booked out the changing room”. When we walked in it was the perfect space. We got a mix of close ups and mid shots, using a combination of one or two lights. We had a little time left over, so headed out to the pitches - the slightly cloudy day helped diffuse the natural light. Lucky as the wind meant there was no way I was putting a light up out there. This environmental portrait was a favourite from the session, and it ended up being used as the main image in the article. Here’s the story: https://abmagazine.accaglobal.com/global/articles/2024/jul/interviews/laying-the-groundwork.html These editorial features are really fun to work with. Thanks to John for being such a great sitter, and the team at AB Magazine for asking me to help out.
