The brief for this project was to redesign an eye magazine editorial feature that embodies the article, consider how it may be interpreted in 2021, and use AR to bring the content to life. My chosen article is about the emergence of a new screen aesthetic out of software advances through the fusion of opposing design styles: minimalism and maximalism. In the article, Flash is a software advancement that allowed for the maximalist interactivity of a web page that merged with a minimalist aesthetic, leading to a new digital experience. I have interpreted AR as today’s software advancement, bringing the article to life by fusing the 2 styles together by having a minimalistic editorial spread that has maximalist interaction through AR, allowing for the digital platform to become an experimental space. I aimed to create visual tension between the two styles and the characteristics that set them apart.
