  • Archie Andarski

Aegis is a mythical goatskin cape that belonged to Zeus and had magical protective properties. Ahiah — one of the epithets of Zeus. According to Musei, it was the skin of Amalthea, the goat that nursed Zeus , and he made a shield out of it during the war with the titans. According to ancient Greek beliefs , the daughter of Zeus, Athena, wore the aegis as part of her attire, attaching to it the image of the head of the Gorgon Medusa. The modern expression "under the aegis " means to be under the protection of some powerful force or to act within the framework of some influential institution.
