Egon Schiele portraits

  • Will Oates

This was a submission for the 2017 Taylor Wessinng portrait prise. I wanted to re create some of the artists iconic pieces and bring them to life, but not as a fashion statement but instead looking more at the body. I didn't want to simply get a naturally frail person and cover them in paint. Instead I chose myself, 6'6, broad and weighing 210+ lb, the idea was to lose a significant amount of weight and look unnaturally thin, therefore emphasising the bones beneath. To look like a walking corpse. That would best encapsulated Egon's interpretation of the nude. In the end I lost 53 lb in three months and then took the 3 portraits as desired.
