March 18, 2021 marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Paris Commune, a couple of months in which workers and the disinherited ruled the City of Light until the military and politicians shot them by the tens of thousands for fear that this experience was an example of the future.El infinito regreso al futuro de la Comuna de París.Article: José Durán RodríguezArt Director: Sancho R. The newspaper El Salto commissioned me to illustrate an article about this inspiring anniversary and I decided to focus on the joy of the moment and not on the massacre that ended everything. The composition with colors of France starts with the image of a heart, the organ that makes us love life.
One of the high points of the Paris Commune is the moment when the citizens, ferocious men and women, take over the City Hall and hang red flags on its balconies. Without the blue and white of the French flag because they feel the government has betrayed them.
In my illustration of this exciting moment for the article, a hot air balloon can be seen in the background. At that time, it was not only used to keep the capital and the provinces of the rest of France connected, but it was also the transport chosen by the authorities to escape.
As a result of the illustration of this article, the newspaper El Salto used the cover illustration for a tote bag as a gift for its subscribers.
And he commissioned me to make two illustrations for a subscription campaign aimed at the youngest part of his target. The challenge was to use the same technique and language to reach a younger and alternative audience.
