Enigmatic Spaces: Electric Brixton Poster Collection (2024)

  • glassveinsxx

This series of three posters was designed for conceptual events at Electric Brixton, each one inspired by a unique blend of music, fashion, and art. Drawing from a diverse range of influences—from cult films and cutting-edge fashion to legendary album covers—these posters showcase my ability to create immersive, thought-provoking designs that capture the essence of each event.

  • Electric Echoes: A poster inspired by the movie Cube (1997) and my personal love for DJ mixes, focusing on creating a room-like, immersive environment.

  • Container: A minimalist design for an art exhibition by Jean-Pierre Raynaud, influenced by Hood By Air fashion and the iconic layout of Joy Division's Closer album cover.

  • Wolf Alice Live: A mysterious, blurred design that captures the enigmatic energy of a live Wolf Alice performance, with nods to the creative style of Ecco2k and the avant-garde aesthetic of the Drain Gang.

Each poster reflects a different aspect of my design style, from the creation of textured environments to the use of minimalist composition and bold typography. Together, they demonstrate my versatility and passion for designing in the music event industry.

Poster 1: Wolf Alice Live at Electric Brixton

Design Inspiration: My design process began by exploring visual inspirations through my archive Tumblr page, where I curate a variety of content to build a library of ideas. For this project, I was particularly inspired by a post from Ecco2k’s Instagram. The white sketch element in my design is a direct nod to his creative style, which aligns with the alternative, avant-garde aesthetic that Wolf Alice and Electric Brixton often embody.

Blurred Effect: The blurred effect on the main image of the band was a deliberate choice to evoke a sense of mystery and anticipation. This effect symbolises the enigmatic and dynamic nature of a live music experience—something that can’t be fully captured in a static image. The blur serves as a visual hook, encouraging viewers to engage more deeply with the poster and the event. It suggests that the full picture of the event’s experience will only be revealed in person, at the live performance.

Design Process: Initially, I experimented with a more complex layout, but I decided to simplify the design to focus on impact and clarity. The straightforward typography ensures that the essential information is easily readable, while the blurred effect adds depth and intrigue.

Poster 2: Electric Echoes at Electric Brixton

This poster, "Electric Echoes," was created for a conceptual electronic music event at Electric Brixton. Drawing inspiration from the movie Cube (1997) and my personal interest in listening to DJ mixes, I focused on creating an immersive, room-like environment within the design. The metallic "foil room" concept was sparked by an image of floating balloon foil, while the zipper detail was inspired by Hood By Air outfits. The bubble wrap element adds texture, inspired by a CD wrapped in bubble wrap, and the side layout takes cues from a fan-made Tetsuo: The Iron Man poster.

Design Process:

The design process involved blending these inspirations to create a cohesive and intriguing visual. The focus was on capturing the energy of a live electronic music event, using texture and structure to draw viewers in.

Poster 3: Container Art Exhibition at Electric Brixton

The container poster was created for an art exhibition featuring Jean-Pierre Raynaud at Electric Brixton. The design draws heavily on influences from fashion and music, creating a minimalist, industrial aesthetic.

Design Inspiration:
  • Leather Background: The title placed on the leather background was inspired by a Hood By Air leather jacket and leather jeans. This texture adds a tactile, edgy feel to the poster, aligning with the industrial theme of the exhibition.

  • Typography Layout: The arrangement of the title was influenced by a Hood By Air shirt's text composition, contributing to the poster's clean, structured design.

  • Composition Positioning: The overall composition and positioning of elements within the poster were inspired by the album cover of Joy Division's Closer. This reference adds a layer of depth and connection to iconic design elements in music history.

Design Process:

The poster blends these diverse inspirations to create a focused, minimalist design that highlights the exhibition’s theme. The structured layout and use of textures serve to both attract and inform the viewer, making it a compelling piece for promoting an art event at Electric Brixton.
