Ephemeral Memories
2017
This project is, basically, a reflection on space. The artist was interested in being able to find distinct characteristics or ways of understanding space in different objects or elements within an area. It is a video installation which consists of a black acrylic surface, personally placed into the woods outside of Paris, at Bois de Boulogne by Ayllón. This screen-like object is positioned in a specific location where the leaves of the trees and shadows from the surroundings are reflected like subtle, ephemeral traces of what is occurring outside. As the pivotal idea, the artist considers placing a geometric element within an environment where everything is more organic, establishing a relation between representation and reality. Also, even though the object is placed in a specific location, there are certain elements which cannot be controlled, such as sunlight and wind movement. As a result, the same environment generates changes onto the object that, for seconds, may appear static but suddenly become chaotic, distorting reality completely.
