ERA KIN

ERA KIN is the avant-pop, knight in shining armour here to save us from the jaws of modern pop music

ERA KIN announces latest EP ‘Piecemeal’, released via _______ on the __ of _____. It’s the solo project of Kieran Hernage, a 27-year-old producer and artist from Western Sydney now residing in East London. Hernage is a fine art graduate who lists medieval heraldry, 80’s slasher films and girls as his artistic influences.
Hernage has performed as the bass player for recent Future Classic signee BUS VIPERS, and has opened for the likes of BODY TYPE, WHY WE RUN and T.MORIMOTO.
Piecemeal’ is like sonic armour. Strong, jarring and robust arrangements scattered with industrial samples, clang and scrape like battling swords. But you’ll discover his production is merely a hardened exterior to house his soft and vulnerable vocal melodies, encasing a more fallible and human interior. ERA KIN is a fortress. His musical weapons of choice include throbbing synths, off-kilter guitars, legions of unpredictable samples and vocal processing that is equally futuristic as it is reminiscent of a benedictine chamber choir.
Piecemeal’s opening track ‘OSTHYWTFPIH’, is that of an updated mission statement intended as a follow up from his first single ‘Posterne Out’. It’s a brooding tune loaded with vexation.
“A lot has changed over the past two years but there will always be those same prescient things we’re endlessly trying to figure out. Changing relationships and the ebb and flow of self-respect are two things that constantly fluctuate, so this track was written at a point when these two things were kinda crashing into each other and caused a lot of frustration” says Hernage of the track.
The second track ‘Down’ is a much softer, metallic hymn. It’s laced with acoustic folk guitar set starkly against glitching sound effects and submerged choral vocals.
“I wrote this a while ago about a girl, basically a lamentation about being ghosted and wanting to be let down easily rather than wait around for answers. I reckon we’ve all been on both sides of that conflict so i try to see it from either standpoint”
ERA KIN’s vast soundscapes can be characterised as “cathartic, industrial chamber music for the club”. Their eclectic palette of influences includes Arca, John Carpenter, Prince, Death Grips, Vangelis and Dido to name a few. With such a wide and strange array of influences, it’a no wonder that his music is like nothing we’ve heard before. Trust in ERA KIN to gallantly lead us in to the brand new musical era of bardcore.
