España '82 World Cup

  • Daniele Monardo

I wanted to make a series of illustrations on what is regarded by many to be the best World Cup tournament to date. I also wanted to push my work towards sports as it is something I want to do more of. Deciding who would be illustrated wasn't easy, however I ended up with this format: I am Italian, so it was essential to have Italy who were also the winners. Next, the other finalist, West Germany. Then I went onto 3rd and 4th place who were Poland and France respectively. Lastly, I decided to do Argentina and Brazil as they were who Italy faced in the second group stage (which was in today's language like the equivalent of the quarterfinals but in a group of 3 format), also because they were easily regarded as two of the best teams in the world at the time. Below each illustration is the name of the player followed by their nationality.

Boniek, POLAND
Breitner, GERMANY
Maradona, ARGENTINA
Platini, FRANCE
Rossi, ITALY
Socrates, BRAZIL
