  • Elizabeth Haynes

Essential Embroidery is a self-initiated brief to produce a series of work that provides insight into the Covid-19 pandemic for future generations, in order to aid understanding and reflection upon some of the absurdities experienced during this period. The work has been created using embroidery, a luxurious historic medium, in order to both highlight the current resurgence of craft and its significance in improving mental well-being, and the strange increase in value of objects deemed ‘essential’. This has been tackled through contrasting the overwhelmingly non-essential historical function of embroidery with these items.
