Exchange overwhelm for peace.

  • Robyn Keet

Imagine this... You started the year with a complete project plan on how to hit the ground running when you got back to the office. You got your product lists based on the last two year's research, you have a system to process queries and orders, and most importantly, you have your desk ready for the potential of 2022.

Two months in, you realise that what worked in the last two years no longer is a viable option for your business. We start to feel overwhelmed, stuck, and a little lonely.

Welcome to the hybrid way of working.

Today we will be diving into one of my favourite tools to combat overwhelm and embrace peace. It's called White Space.

Juliet Funt describes it as a strategic pause taken between activities. These thoughtful pauses laced through the busyness of the workday are the oxygen that allows everything else to catch fire.

WhiteSpace can be recuperative; to reboot your exhausted brain and body. It can also be constructive; this is time spent on driving business results through introspection, strategy, and big picture thinking.

So let's dive into one actionable strategy you can take right now to activate productivity and get results.

THE ROUTE

Great leaders focus not only on the now but also on the road ahead. They step back to see the landscape - what's possible right now and what is no longer available. It's being strategic with the resources that you have.

Take the time to plan for your success and how to approach missteps. Before your day starts, plot the road ahead of you - every meeting, every activity, and all the things that bring you joy. Manage your capacity - physically, financially, mentally, and emotionally.

Set yourself some spaces within your day to check email, make phone calls, attend meetings, and focus on the quality time needed to get work done. It's being strategic with one of your most valuable commodities - Time.

Big-hearted Creators need time to think, innovate and play with the concepts that clients have paid them to come up with. Give yourself time to process the magic that you bring into the world.

It's so easy to over-schedule ourselves in this busy hybrid world. It's time to cut quickly and deeply those activities, financial obligations, and clients that keep us overwhelmed.

Creative, may the new season and month of March bring you much peace and fulfillment. A new season of pruning for growth in your business and creative calling.
