This online course is an introduction to pattern cutting, focusing on the main techniques and concepts required to create a pattern. Using a simple garment the process from sketch to garment is explained, both the ‘how-to’ and the ‘why’ decisions are made. This process starts with how to take measurements and create a block pattern. It then moves on to use the block to create a style pattern, and finally how to prepare that pattern for use in manufacture. Understanding the reasons why certain decisions are made enables the student to apply these process to many other designs and begin a journey into pattern cutting.
