FILE CORRUPTED - An Experiment In Glitch Art and Photographic Collage

Gifs are a wonderful way to present short animated fragments of a story or world. They are also, in my eyes, slowly becoming more obsolete as other file types offer better quality and reduced file size. Maybe this was part of the inspiration for this small series of images. Done as part of my final year coursework at university, I created series of animated images using stills and corrupting them through various alterations on After Effects. Each image was done more for aesthetic purposes than it was for any particular message, but if there was one theme I made sure I attached to this project, it was obsolescence. Whether this means the dystopian takeover of digital technology we so often complain about, or a logical progression which our society is trying to keep up with, I made this project with no intent on berating or encouraging the takeover of digital technology.

WARNING: These files are very large, and may take a while to load.
You may realise that the effects I used aren't necessarilly realistic. The use of vhs and digital corruptions was an interesting mix, so I decided to stick them together.
The next image is probably my most emotionally charged piece out of the four here. Signalling a partial break away from our need for interaction as we substitute it for the inviting glare of our screens. Yes, it is a bit on the nose, but it is also something that I feel we have all experienced; and is a tell-tale sign of one of the major ways our social apetite has changed over the past 15 years. Time will tell whether this may be damaging to our relationships.
