Film Festival Opportunity -HSFF

  • Carmen Priotto

The Healthy Scepticism Film Festival (HSFF), funded by the Wellcome Trust and King's College London, are looking for short film submissions. This is an opportunity for your work to be shown to a large audience on a variety of online platforms, and perhaps in a physical venue sometime in 2021 if the coronavirus situation will allow for it. We will feature the films of five finalists, and one overall winner will receive £250. The overall winning film will be featured in the festival, alongside an interview with the winning filmmaker, and both will also be featured at the in-person festival and on the King’s College, London website. The winner will be chosen by an interdisciplinary panel of judges working across the content areas of the Healthy Scepticism project. What is the Healthy Scepticism project? Read about it here: https://www.healthyscepticism.com/team-1 The films submitted should offer some contemplation of the issues under consideration at the Healthy Scepticism project, and may do so in any way the filmmaker sees fit. Some questions submissions explore might include the following: What are your or others’ experiences of health, illness, wellness, medicine, healthcare? What is your perspective on how our healthcare systems do and do not work? What is the role of the “wellness” industry in shifting our forms of critique of mainstream healthcare? How do we currently think of ourselves as “ill” or “healthy,” and why? What role does media – including social media – have in our perceptions of health, wellness, illness and disease? How do personal encounters, family histories, ethnic, sexual and gender identities change our experiences of health and illness, of healthcare and healthcare systems? How has COVID-19 changed things for us in terms of how we understand good health? Radically? Subtly? Not at all? For more information, please visit the film festival page of the HS project website: https://www.healthyscepticism.com/hs-film-festival. There you will find more information about the project, the film festival and the competition, including practical information about how and where to submit your entry. Any further questions can be addressed to us at: healthyscepticismfilmfestival@gmail.com. We look forward to receiving your entries. Best of luck!
