A few months back, i collaborated with a good friend of mine to work on the score of a filmmakers most recent short, "The trials and tribulations of a girl named Alice". I asked him what vibe he wanted, he mentioned jazz elements on a more improvised basis. i immediately thought of one of my favourite film scores, "Elevator to the Gallows", composed by Mile Davis. The Score itself was entirely improvised between him and his band. With that in mind, i recruited a double bassist and drummer to work together on the night of recording to go over arrangements and structure. having already come up with a general chord structure, we focused more on the rhythm and pace of the music, following the films dialogue constantly.
