First Story: #TellYourStory

  • Sarah Hecks
BRIEF
Launch the first ever National Writing Day, while inspiring children to discover the joy of creative writing.

INSIGHT

Children who enjoy writing are eight times more likely to write above the level expected for their age, compared with children who don’t enjoy writing at all (23.2% vs 3.2%). Putting fun back into writing isn’t just a nice idea, it’s critical to helping every child fulfil their potential.

IDEA

On National Writing Day, we created “#TellYourStory”. The campaign tapped into an established technique used to help writers get rid of their writer’s block - simply describing the view from their window.
We used the power of social platforms and influencers to explode the technique to a massive scale and inspire new writers to find their voice. In one day, we would get children, and everyone else, all over the country writing and sharing their stories with the world, using the hashtag #TellYourStory.
