Flatland Imagery

  • Louise Lynn
Work produced around a college-set brief, based on creating photographs without a camera.
To achieve this, I wanted to use text as code within a JPEG file to create an image. I aimed to use text which described a subject which is difficult or impossible to visualise by normal means.
I chose the text from Flatland, written in 1884 by Edwin Abbott Abbott, which examines the nature of dimensions and pasted each chapter into the hexademical code of a blank JPEG file structure.
The posters (one for each Part of the book - image with corresponding text) are approximately A1 with a 3:2 photographic ratio.
