Floriental - Comme des Garçons
Sparked by Nick Knight's longterm passion for photographing flowers, Comme des Garçons asked the imagemaker to create a film for their new scent, Floriental.
Drawing inspiration from the cistus flower, which has no smell, the fragrance challenges the traditions of perfumery to reimagine a scentless flower. With no definite top, middle or base, each ingredient - from sandalwood and incense to pink pepper and plum liqueur - emerges and recedes in creative confusion.
Echoing the scent's spirit, flowers break apart, dissolve and become something new in Knight's fashion film. I was interested in evoking the relationship between painting and flowers,’ said Knight. ’In this film for Comme des Garçons I wanted to suggest that the flowers were transforming themselves into a painting: painting themselves.
