Forest Fire

  • Theodor Fahlén
“Forest Fire” is a concertina book inspired by the big forest fire in Västmanland county, Sweden, in 2014.
Read from left to right the imagery goes from the original old pine and fir forests - to the blaze that lasted for a week - to finally show the regeneration of plants that were found growing in the area shortly after.
These plants are common after fires, and parts of the burnt areas were converted into protected woodland to study the regeneration of the undisturbed forest, and the plants and insects that thrive after wild fires.
Original image is painted with gouache on tinted paper and is roughly 80cm wide.
