Fragile Surroundings: Mother Earth

  • Indigo Macey

This collection titled 'Mother Earth' has been created with the context of representing how we take from nature and destroy it yet completely depend on it to survive on planet earth. Not only have we taken from the earth since civilisation began, but now in 2020 our planet seems to be at breaking point. This shoot has a stylised aesthetic using natural materials, mixed with found man made objects. I wanted this series to be part of the 'Fragile Surroundings' collection, showing the fragile aspect of the human environment that we rely on so heavily yet constantly destroy. For both the Mother Earth and Sea Sovereign initial research I helped out at a primary school with children aged around 7 in Brighton, with their sustainability project. I produced a presentation and then went onto help them make their recycled t-shirt bags, most of which included cut out fabric animals and sea creatures an extinction rebellion symbols. I was completely inspired and impressed by the amazing creations they had made, attempting to sow themselves and totally devoted to the idea of being sustainable. This gave me a huge amount of hope for the future as well as more inspiration and drive to create my work.
