G A I A

‘G A I A’ raises awareness for the extensive pollution of natural habitats due to plastic waste, which has detrimental effects on ecosystems. As a result of our current economic structure and its drive for constant growth, today's society has become accustomed to the sight of rubbish littering their surroundings, blind to the harm that it is causing wildlife. In order to combat this issue, I have created a commercial collection of reusable household products, consisting of beeswax food wraps, wrapping cloths and produce bags, that negates the need for single-use plastics. My design work is composed of two collections of delicate watercolour paintings inspired by British flora and fauna from woodland and riverside habitats. These designs aim to remind people of the beauty the natural world holds and encourages them to care for surrounding environments. In order to keep this collection eco-friendly, my designs are digitally printed to reduce dye and water usage on sustainable Bamboo fabric. ‘G A I A’ promotes a low waste lifestyle, encouraging people to engage and evaluate the effects their everyday choices have on the environment.
