GARAGE GUYS

  • Scarlet Evans
A series that I have worked on intermittently over the last couple of years, documenting life at a small row of garages tucked away under railway arches in Bow in East London.

Over the years I've got to know Ahmed, the first mechanic to set up his business there. He has worked in a small auto shop under the same railway arch for 25 years, but sadly he can no longer afford to stay and will soon have to move further out. Over time I have photographed Ahmed and the other mechanics working on the street, and have built up a series that documents their everyday. I'm fascinated by the incredible work that they do and I hope that these photographs will serve as a lasting memory of this unique place, once the time has come for the people working there to move on.
