Gender Play vol.2

  • Fern Morrey

Performative still photographic embodiments of gender alternative expression, I want to question the ruling of the spectators gaze, status levels and body ideals to conversate ideas upon sexualities representation. Using juxtaposition and conceptual articulation, I want viewers to question what they see, how they feel, why society is the way it is when it comes to talking and viewing sexed bodies, sexuality and gender. Visually i want discuss why strength and weakness is applied to the sexes of male and female, how costume and the fashion industry mirrors restrictive and gender specific categories of conformity and why there is male and female (only) to begin with, why is it gendered? Stereotypically i wanted to engage role types/ role-play scenarios to get the ball rolling.... this work tests, challenges and reverses ideal matters upon representation, feminist incentive and attempting to question gender expression, self and others.
