Outline planning application for a state-of-the-art Rum Cask Maturation Facility in Redruth, Cornwall. Produced by Grimshaw Architects for the Cornish Geothermal Distillery Company Ltd. This project has been developed with sustainability at its heart, from the business model to its energy source and materiality. The facility will generate electricity utilising the clean geothermal energy being produced on the neighbour site. The high temperatures and humidity levels required for maturation will be generated as passively as possible using a uniquely optimised biome and winter garden, designed to capture the most solar energy possible. The project has the potential to regenerate the site, bringing with it a new, cleaner economy. Design team: Nick Peters, Naomi Danos, Chris Carty Engineers: Buro Happold
