GIRL FIEND Magazine is an independent print publication that celebrates women in music – past, present and future. We strive to change the way female musicians are represented and portrayed and aim to level the gender gap in today's music industry. Winner of BBC Worldwide Best Magazine Brand 2017. 'Sharp, funny and provocative.' – Editing features to remove spelling mistakes and grammatical errors – Checking facts and stories to ensure their accuracy – Rewriting material to ensure flow on the layout – Ensuring that all copy adheres to the house style and tone of GIRL FIEND magazine (including writing the style sheet) – Cutting or expanding material as necessary to adhere to page layout – Writing headlines and standfirsts to capture the story and tone of the magazine – Liaising with editor-in-chief, designer and news editor in order to maintain copy flow and production schedule – Working to a flat plan to ensure that the right stories appear in the correct place on each page – Laying out text on InDesign and checking for rivers, widows and orphans – Proofing final pages with editor-in-chief – Writing the cover lines for the contents/cover Other duties required writing reviews and features for the magazine (Charlotte Patmore, The Tuts, Girls Rock London, Black Honey, Essential Reads, Festival Watch introduction, etc), contacting PRs, contributing to aesthetic and setting up social media platforms.
